Man squashed, lucky to survive He is suffering from a broken hip lying in the Acute 7 ward of  Tupua Tamsese Meaole hospital, but 27 year old Oloie Fa’ato’a is “happy to be alive”. He was crushed by a forklift while trying to unravel a chain tied to it last Wednesday at his home village of Sa’asa’ai, Savai’i. r />
Fa’ato’a was taken to the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital at Tuasivi for treatment but was rushed to Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital on Friday because his condition had deteriorated.

Speaking to Samoa Observer yesterday, Fa’ato’a said the lift driver did not realize he was still behind when he reversed.
“All I can say is that I thought this was it for me,” Fa’ato’a said.

He said he was stuck under the lift and could not move to avoid being crushed.
He is now trying to walk again after an operation to align his broken hip.

Fa’ato’a said he worked for his uncle who has a business in their village of Sa’asa’ai. His only daughter he said was the inspiration for him to work hard at a full recovery.
“I thank God for saving my life, looking at my daughter every day makes me happy and pushes me to fight to live,” he said.
